Nearly an entire calendar year after the 2020 spring sports season was postponed (and then ultimately cancelled), multiple school systems are planning on kicking off the 2020 fall sports season later this month.
In the fall the MPSSAA released a road map for local school systems to follow in a return to play. One of those plans called for the beginning of the fall sports season on February 13, with competition to begin 20 days later in early March. After all public school systems aside from Carroll County cancelled the winter sports season, multiple systems - including Anne Arundel, Baltimore and Howard counties - are planning to follow the road map for fall sports.
Washington County held its own fall sports season in October and November after the MPSSAA cleared systems to choose whether or not to hold a fall sports season in the fall. Washington County conducted dual and tri meets between its seven public schools throughout the 2020 fall season before shutting down before its scheduled county meet in early December.
The MIAA also held competitions between schools in an "open schedule" format in the fall and was able to contest a Baltimore Area Private School championship race before activities were postponed.
