Nakasaka built upon his unforeseen 2015 breakout with an outstanding 2016 season. He became one of the first boys in the state to break 16 minutes which he did at the Adidas XC Challenge in Cary, NC. He challenged Rohann Asfaw for the better part of the Montgomery County Championships before finishing in third (behind Asfaw and Ryan Lockett) and then hung with Asfaw until The Dip at Hereford at the 4A State Championships, where he finished second. Nakasaka was also the third Maryland finisher at the NXN Southeast Regionals, behind Asfaw and Westlake's Jay Hall.
