Rising senior Brandon Nichols from Kent Island had a solid junior cross country season in which he finished 14th at the 2A state championships. He also was the individual champion at the Bayside and 2A East regionals, leading the Buccaneers to team titles at both races. It was his performance at the outdoor state championships that really established him as a 2A contender for this coming season, however: a second-place finish in the 3200, where his 9:36 effort was nearly a 30-second personal best. Nichols and teammate Erick Sanchez could make Kent Island a force to be reckoned with beyond the Eastern Shore this year.
