We got a double Workout Wednesday video feature for today with the Oakland Mills cross country team following the Northern-Calvert Workout Wednesday posted earlier today. We visited the Scorpions in one of their last workouts before tomorrow's Howard County Championships this past Friday. A staple workout for their team on an annual basis around championship season is pairing up two runners on a roughl 300 meter loop (2 sets of 6 repeats for each leg) at a nearby elementary school field in an alternating leg parloff style relay.
One of the state's very best girls individual runners is found on the Oakland Mills squad in senior Brit Lang, who was the 2012 state cross country champion in 2A. Lang has been of Maryland's top performers over the last two years despite not winning another state title and this fall has won four major invitationals including a 18:26 season best at the Scorpion Crawl two weeks ago. Lang races tomorrow at the Howard County Championships as the defending individual champ and begins her final stretch of high school cross country races.
Lang is not certainly hopeful of trying to reclaim a state title again, but understands it will be no easy task in a competitive 2A classification with the likes of Hayley Jackson and Kathryn Gearhart. Maryland's top finisher from Foot Locker Northeast last November, Lang will also be returning to Van Cortlandt Park in New York next month to vie for a top 10 finish and qualify for Foot Locker Nationals in San Diego.
Coaching Brit Lang are two people that she has known all her life in father Phil and mother Vicki, who have been coaching at Oakland Mills for many years. The Oakland Mills boys were top 10 finishers last year in the 2A state meet and hope to make a jump and compete for a top 3 finish in a few years at Hereford. Their squad is led by junior Joey Navarro, who ran his 16:24 season best on the same Centennial High School course which he will race on Thursday at the Howard County Championships.
MileSplit will be on-site with coverage from the Howard County Championships tomorrow!
